Guanshaoping

Shaoping Guan graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts with a master's degree in 2002 and obtained a PhD from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University in 2018. From September 2011 to March 2013, he was a visiting scholar at the School of Architecture and Urban Studies, Virginia Tech, USA. Senior Visiting Scholar, Stuart Weitzman School of Design, University of Pennsylvania, USA, February 2023 - August 2023. He is currently a professor, doctoral and master's supervisor at the School of Design, South China University of Technology, and the academic leader of the National First-Class major in Industrial Design.Member of the Industrial Design Teaching Guidance Sub-Committee of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Mechanical Engineering Disciplines in Higher Education Institutions under the Ministry of Education; Standing Director of the Education Professional Branch of the China Industrial Design Association；Vice President of the Landscape Architecture Committee of the China Architecture Culture Research Association；Member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the IDEA-KING AWARD of the International Association of Landscape Architecture Planning and Design；Member of the International China Planning Society；Vice Chairman of the Industrial Design Branch of the Guangdong Machinery Society；Deputy Director of the Teaching Steering Committee for Industrial Design of Higher Education Institutions in Guangdong Province；Standing Director of the Guangdong Provincial Association of Fine Arts and Design Education in Colleges and Universities；Standing Director of the Guangdong Industrial Design Association；Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Industrial Design Innovation Service Alliance, etc. The research mainly focuses on two fields: industrial design and its theory, and landscape planning and design.It has undertaken multiple vertical research projects such as the National Social Science Foundation, provincial and ministerial industry-university-research cooperation, and the Guangdong Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Planning, as well as dozens of horizontal design projects. It has published over 40 papers in important domestic and international journals and conferences, and obtained more than 30 utility model and design patents. Won one first prize and one second prize of the Guangdong Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievements Award, multiple top international design awards such as the Red Dot Award, over ten other awards, and guided students to win more than twenty domestic and international awards including the Red Dot Supreme Award.
