Biography

Wanghui Li is an Associate Professor at South China University of Technology. His research focuses on the mechanical behavior of materials under extreme loading conditions, particularly shock compression, ultra-high pressure, and high strain rates, with a strong emphasis on shock-induced spallation and dynamic failure.

His work aims to uncover the fundamental mechanisms governing strength, deformation, and damage evolution at atomistic and microstructural scales, and to elucidate the coupling between plastic flow, microstructural evolution, and fracture under extreme conditions. By integrating first-principles calculations, large-scale molecular dynamics simulations, machine learning approaches, and advanced dynamic experiments and diagnostics, he conducts systematic studies across material systems ranging from strongly disordered metals to covalent crystals.

Representative materials studied in his research include high-entropy alloys, high-entropy ceramics, silicon carbide, and diamond, which serve as model systems to reveal both the commonalities and distinctions in strength and failure mechanisms under extreme environments. His research provides mechanistic insights and theoretical guidance for strength evaluation and mechanical design of materials subjected to extreme conditions.
