Biography

I am Wei Liu, an Associate Professor at the School of Medicine, South China University of Technology. My research focuses on the development of zebrafish models of human hematological diseases and in vivo drug screening. By establishing multiple zebrafish models of human blood disorders—including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), immunodeficiency, osteopetrosis caused by osteoclast dysfunction (OP), and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH)—I aim to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying hematological diseases and to identify effective candidate therapeutic compounds.

I have published nine SCI-indexed research articles as first or corresponding author in leading journals, including PNAS (2025), Haematologica (2024), Leukemia (2017, 2013), Development (2018), Cell Death & Disease Discovery (2024, 2022), and Journal of Genetics and Genomics (2024, 2022). I have filed seven invention patents, six of which have been granted. I have also served as principal investigator on three National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) projects, three Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation projects, and one Guangzhou municipal project.
