Biography

Chen Qingjun is a Doctor of Engineering, a professor and doctoral supervisor at South China University of Technology, honored as an Excellent Teacher in Southern Guangdong. He holds the qualifications of National First-Class Registered Structural Engineer and Registered Geotechnical Engineer. He serves as an expert committee member of the National College Student Structural Design Competition, Vice Chair of the Engineering Digitalization Professional Committee of the Guangdong Civil and Architectural Society, and an expert committee member of the Prefabricated Municipal and Transportation Branch of the Guangdong Provincial Green and Prefabricated Construction Development Association.

His long-term research focuses on concrete structures, steel-concrete composite structures, recycled concrete structures, timber structures, and structural impact. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of New South Wales in Australia and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He has led or participated in over 70 research projects, including those funded by the National and Provincial Natural Science Foundations. He has been deeply involved in major engineering projects such as the China Spallation Neutron Source, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, the Guangdong Museum, and the Guangzhou Opera House. His achievements include one second prize and one third prize of the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, one second prize of the Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Progress Award, and one first prize of the Engineering Construction Science and Technology Progress Award by the China Construction Enterprise Management Association. He has published over 150 papers in notable domestic and international academic journals, serves as an Outstanding Reviewer for the top SCI journal Engineering Structures, co-authored two academic books, and holds 12 invention patents.

In teaching, he has received one second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award and consecutive awards in six editions of the Guangdong Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards (including one special prize, two first prizes, and three second prizes). He also won the Special Prize in the New Engineering Senior Group of the 5th Guangdong Provincial College Teacher Teaching Innovation Competition and the Third Prize in the New Engineering Senior Group of the 5th National College Teacher Teaching Innovation Competition. As an instructor for the National College Student Structural Design Competition (a national A-level event and the highest-level disciplinary competition in civil engineering), his students have won five first prizes and four second prizes. He is the second instructor in China to receive the Outstanding Contribution Award of the National College Student Structural Design Competition (currently only seven instructors nationwide hold this honor). He is the lead editor of the textbook Structural Model Concepts and Experiments, included in the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development's 14th Five-Year Plan. He oversees the provincial first-class offline course Structural Model Concepts and Experiments and is a core contributor (ranked 2/5) to the national first-class course Concrete Structure Theory.

Undergraduate teaching: 

1. Main participant in the National First-Class online and offline blended course Concrete Structure Theory (ranked 2nd), and the person in charge of the Guangdong Province First-Class Offline course Concepts and Experiments of Structural Models (ranked 1st). 

2. Served as the chief editor of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development's 14th Five-Year Plan textbook Concepts and Experiments of Structural Models. 

3. Guided students to complete multiple national and university-level innovation programs for college students.
