Lan Xiaoyi

Lan Xiaoyi, Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Master and Doctoral Supervisor, Awardee of National High-Level Young Talent Scheme, and Committee Member of International Institute of Welding Subcommission XV-E (Tubular Structures). His research primarily focuses on high-performance steel structures, offshore engineering structures and intelligent construction of structures. 

He obtained bachelor degree (2014) and master degree (2016) from South China University of Technology, and doctoral degree (2019) from Hong Kong Polytechnic University. After working as a research fellow at Nanyang Technological University (2020-2022), he joined South China University of Technology as an associate professor in 2022, and was promoted as a full professor in 2023. 

He has acted as PI of several research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) and Young Scientists Fund, Guangdong Basic and Applied Basic Research Fund, and Guangzhou Basic and Applied Basic Research Fund. He serves as an Associate Editor for the international design standards ISO 14346 and ISO 14347 in the field of steel tubular structures. In the past five years, as first or corresponding author, he has published 23 SCI-indexed journal papers, which have attracted over 580 SCI citations. He has received the Institution of Structural Engineers (UK) Young Researcher Award and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Outstanding PhD Thesis Award. A series of his research findings and design proposals have been adopted by the international design standard ISO 14346.
