BiographyPan Hong, professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at South China University of Technology, Vice President of the Guangdong Geotechnical Mechanics and Engineering Society. He is also an editorial board member of journals such as Journal of Rock Mechanics and Engineering and Journal of Underground Space and Engineering. Additionally, he is a member of the Geotechnical Engineering Special Committee of the Guangzhou Construction Science and Technology Committee, an expert at the Guangzhou Metro Shield Technology Research Institute, and a construction system expert in Guangzhou, Dongguan, and Zhuhai Hengqin. He is a National Certified Civil Engineer (Geotechnical). From 1984 to 1988, I studied at the Department of Engineering Mechanics, Dalian University of Technology, and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. From 1990 to 1993, I attended the Institute of Structural Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, Zhejiang University, and earned a Master's degree in Structural Engineering. From 1993 to 1996, I further studied at the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, Zhejiang University, and obtained a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering. Since September 1996, I have been engaged in teaching, scientific research, and engineering practice in the field of civil engineering at South China University of Technology. During this period, from November 2004 to November 2005, I served as a state-sponsored visiting scholar at the University of Sydney, Australia, for a one-year research stay. I have led or been a key member in completing numerous projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation, Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Plan, and other funding programs, as well as scientific research projects based on major engineering projects. I have published dozens of papers in journals such as Chinese Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, Journal of Building Structures, Chinese Journal of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, Hydrogeology Journal, Acta Geotechnica, and Rock and Soil Mechanics. As a key contributor, I participated in the development of multiple national, industry, or local technical standards, including the first anti-floating technical standard for underground structures issued domestically. I have obtained multiple invention patents. In 2020 and 2014, I was awarded the First Prize of Guangdong Provincial Technological Invention and the Third Prize of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology, respectively. My achievements have been applied in projects such as the Poly World Trade Center, the Production and Research Comprehensive Base of China Southern Power Grid, the artificial island of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the southern extension section of Guangzhou Metro Line 4, Guangzhou Metro Line 18, multiple power tunnels such as Shijing-Huanxi, the Chongqing Jiangjin Guanyinyan Yangtze River Extra-large Bridge, Guangzhou Xinguang Bridge, and Guangzhou Liede Bridge.
