Biography

Shi Kairong, Male, Ph.D., Associate Professor, graduated with a Doctor of Engineering degree in Structural Engineering from Southeast University, and was a Visiting Scholar at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, USA. He is currently a faculty member at the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, South China University of Technology.

He also holds several concurrent positions, including:

  • Council Member, Prestressed Structures Branch, China Steel Construction Society

  • Council Member, Construction Division, the Architectural Society of China

  • Executive Council Member and Deputy Secretary-General, Guangdong Provincial Steel Structure Association; Member of its Expert Committee

  • Standing Committee Member, Construction Engineering Committee, Guangdong Provincial Civil and Architectural Society

  • Member, Construction Safety Management Expert Committee of Guangdong Province

  • Expert for Engineering Quality, Safety, and Emergency Rescue in Guangdong Province

  • Member, Cultural Relics Protection Expert Committee of Guangdong Province

  • Expert Member, Guangzhou Cultural Relics Management and Historical & Cultural City Protection Committee

In recent years, he has presided over or participated in nearly 50 research projects.  He has published over 100 papers, of which nearly 50 have been indexed by SCI, EI, or ISTP.

His awards include 3 Second Prizes of the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Award (once as lead contributor, twice as participant), 1 Second Prize of the Guangzhou Science and Technology Award, and over 10 other societal science and technology awards. 

He has edited 1 academic monograph as the chief editor, co-edited 1 academic monograph, served as the deputy chief editor of 1 textbook, and co-edited 5 technical codes or specifications.

His main research interests focus on:

  • Steel structure, long-span spatial structure, prestressed structure, prefabricated structures

  • Intelligent optimization algorithm, machine learning, structural analysis and optimization

  • Construction technology and management of large-scale complicated structure

  • New formwork and scaffolding technology with safety management

  • Structural health monitoring and material testing
