Biography

Bao Yang (杨宝), male, received his B.Eng. in Engineering Mechanics from South China University of Technology (SCUT) in 2007 and his Ph.D. in Solid Mechanics from the same university in 2012 (University Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award; supervisor: Prof. Tang Liqun).

From 2013 to 2021 he worked at the Institute of Textiles & Clothing and the Research Center for Smart Wearable Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as Post-doctoral Fellow / Research Associate / Research Scientist (supervisor: Prof. Tao Xiaoming, Honorary Fellow of the Textile Institute, recipient of the Founders Award of The Fiber Society and the 13th Guanghua Engineering Science & Technology Prize).

In June 2021 he returned to SCUT through the Overseas High-Level Talent Recruitment Program and joined the Department of Engineering Mechanics, School of Civil Engineering & Transportation. He is currently Associate Professor at SCUT, member of the 3rd Soft-Matter Mechanics Task Force of the Chinese Society of Theoretical & Applied Mechanics, young editorial-board member of Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica (11th editorial board), committee member of the Bio-mechanics Professional Committee of the Guangdong Society of Theoretical & Applied Mechanics, committee member of the Explosion Mechanics & Engineering Blasting Professional Committee of the same society, and committee member of the Bio-mechanics Professional Committee of the Guangdong Society of Biomedical Engineering.

Starting from mechanics and crossing into materials science, optics, electronics, thermodynamics, textiles and medicine, his research focuses on the fundamentals of mechanics-enabled smart wearable technology, including electro-mechanical behaviors of soft matter, flexible sensors and actuators, smart wearables, motion-pose recognition & prediction, sports biomechanics, and their applications in sports, rehabilitation and healthcare.

He has led 9 projects such as NSFC General Program and Guangdong NSF General Program, and participated in more than 20 projects including NSFC Key Program, National Key R&D Program, Hong Kong Innovation & Technology Fund and Hong Kong General Research Fund. He has published over 70 SCI journal papers with more than 2 000 citations.

He is continuously recruiting post-doctoral researchers in solid mechanics, especially those with interdisciplinary mechanics experience and/or smart-wearable research backgrounds. Interested candidates please send a CV to byang20210415@scut.edu.cn.
