Biography From 1993 to 1997, I studied in the Department of Building Materials at Harbin Institute of Architectural Engineering (now part of Harbin Institute of Technology), where I obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree. In 1997, I was admitted to the Major of Materials Science in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at South China University of Technology (SCUT) to pursue a Master’s degree. In 1999, I was granted the qualification for the integrated Master’s-PhD program and continued my doctoral studies in the same major and school at SCUT, earning a Doctor of Engineering degree in 2002. From July 2002 to December 2007, I engaged in teaching and scientific research work in the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Architecture, South China University of Technology. Since January 2008, I have been undertaking teaching and scientific research work in the Department of Civil Engineering, School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, South China University of Technology. I was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006. Currently, I serve as Director of the Building Materials Testing Department at the SCUT Civil Engineering and Transportation Testing Center, Director of the Building Materials Laboratory at the SCUT School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, and a Permanent Research Fellow at the State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Building and Urban Science of SCUT. I have presided over and participated in more than 70 scientific research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Guangdong Provincial Key Science and Technology Special Projects. My research areas cover structural durability and structural self-healing, high-performance and ultra-high-performance concrete, comprehensive utilization of solid waste, and new building materials. I have published more than 100 academic papers in journals such as the Journal of Civil Engineering. I was awarded the Second Class Award of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress in 2009 and the Third Class Award of Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress in 2015. As the first author, I compiled the monograph Technical Manual for Chloride-Resistant High-Performance Concrete (published by China Water & Power Press and Intellectual Property Press in 2006). I also participated in compiling the monograph New Dry-Mixed Mortars for Construction (published by China Architecture & Building Press in 2004). I hold more than 40 national invention patents and 2 PCT international patents. I participated as a co-chief editor in compiling Guangdong provincial local standards, including Technical Guidelines for the Application of Seawater Corrosion-Resistant Concrete (DB44/T 566-2008), Chloride-Resistant Low-Heat Portland Cement (DB44/T 1115-2013), Special Cement for Ready-Mixed Mortars (DB44/T 1116-2013), and Cement-Based Spacers for Reinforcement Cover (DB44/T 1663-2015). I also participated as a compiler in formulating the national standard Marine Portland Cement (GB/T 31289-2014) and 8 industry standards such as Concrete Freezing Resistance Testing Equipment (JG/T243-2009). My academic affiliations include: Director of the Concrete and Prestressed Concrete Branch of the China Civil Engineering Society; Director of the Education and Human Resources Working Committee of the China Concrete and Cement Products Association; Standing Member of the Building Materials Professional Committee of the Guangdong Civil Engineering and Architecture Society; Standing Member of the Concrete and Prestressed Concrete Professional Committee of the Guangdong Civil Engineering and Architecture Society; and Member of the Low-Carbon Building Materials and Solid Waste Utilization Professional Committee of the Guangdong Ceramic Society.
