Profile

Hao Zhou received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering) from Tongji University in July 2018. From December 2016 to December 2017, he was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign (UIUC). From August 2018 to December 2021, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Postdoctoral Research Station of Civil Engineering, South China University of Technology, and was promoted to Associate Research Fellow (Postdoctoral) in September 2020.

Since December 2021, he has been with the School of Civil and Transportation Engineering, South China University of Technology, where he is currently an Associate Professor, serving as Director of Academic Affairs of the School and Deputy Director of the MEM Education Center. He is a core member of the State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Building and Urban Science.

He teaches core undergraduate and graduate courses including Principles of Concrete Structures, Hydraulic Reinforced Concrete Structures, Plasticity and Damage Mechanics, Nonlinear Mechanics and Structural Analysis, and Advanced Theory of Reinforced Concrete Structures.

His research interests focus on analysis and computation of concrete structures, multi-hazard behavior and performance of structures, and stochastic mechanics and structural reliability. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals in structural engineering and engineering mechanics. He has served as Principal Investigator for seven national and provincial research projects and received the First Prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award (2020).

He is a member of the Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering and a member and council member of the Guangdong Association of Young Scientists. He also serves as a peer reviewer for the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) as well as the Natural Science Foundations of Guangdong Province and Beijing Municipality.
