Biography

Pro. Yiqi Liu is a talented young researcher focusing on machine-learning-based modelling, statistical-learning-based fault diagnosis as well as advanced control of chemical and bio-chemical processes, such as wastewater treatment, chemical processes, and so on. Yiqi believes “Artificial intelligence will revolutionize environmental protection, system management and our life”

Yiqi was the recipient of EU-Marie Curie Individual Fellowship (DTU, Denmark), the Hongkong Scholar Fellowship in 2016 (CityU, Hongkong), the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst Visiting Scholar Award in 2015 (TU Ilminau, Germany) and the Chinese Scholarship Council Award in 2011 to visit Australia (UQ, Australia), International exchange 2020 cost share from the Royal Society (University of Strathclyde, UK), PhD Extraordinary award in the field of Engineering, 2014, South China University of Technology (China).

Yiqi secured over RMB 15,565,000 for a total of 28 projects from Chinese Research Council (National Natural Science Foundation of China), Chinese State Government, Chinese Company and others since 2013. Also, he acted as a principal investigator to host EU horizon 2020-Marie Curie Individual Fellowship (DTU, Denmark) and an important participant toAustralian Research Council project and to achieve ‘Global Project Innovation Award 2014 of the International Water Association for SCORe: Sewer Corrosion and Odour Research project’ in the International Water Association.

He holds over 20 patents and has authored more than 100 peer-review articles (80% is first or corresponding author), 90 of which are SCI indexed journal papers (90% is JCR Q1 and Q2), 3 books (2 books and 1 book chapter) and his works have been cited over 2,000 times (Scopus). Six journal papers were selected by ESI TOP 1% since 2016. His research works appear in Water Research, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, Chemical Engineering Science, Control Engineering Practice, Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, Water Science and Technology, etc.

He has supervised 20 PhD students, 7 of which have graduated and been Associate or Assistant Professors in several universities, such as Foshan University in China, and 24 Master students, 9 of which have been to excellent companies, such as Huawei, Baidu, Guangdong;

He has selected as the program chair or keynote speakers for many international conferences, such as 15th International on Reliability, Maintainability, and Safety (ICRMS 2024), and Technical Committee, such as 7th International Conference on Robotics, Control and Automation (RCAE 2024) and 3rd International Conference on Cyberspace Simulation and Evaluation (CSE 2024).

Yiqi is the Associate Editor of IEEE ACCESS (IF=3.4), ISA Transactions (IF=7.3), Scientific reports (IF=3.8), Technologies (IF=4.3) and other 3 Journals, was invited to be a reviewer for over 100 SCI-indexed journals. He achieved theoutstandingAssociate Editor of IEEE ACCESS (2021-2023), outstanding reviewers for Computers & Industrial Engineering (2016), Applied Soft Computing (2017), Journal of Hydrology (2017). His H-index is equal to 30.

The outcomes of the Pro. Liu’s achievements have boosted the visibility/competitiveness of the research group (and the University) in the field of plant-wide control and increase traction of research excellence in the water and wastewater sectors at the National, European and International Level.
