Hailong (Henry) Jia
Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, and Dean of the Department of Social Security, School of Public Administration, South China University of Technology
He previously worked long-term at the Law School of South China University of Technology before transferring to the School of Public Administration in 2021. He earned his Doctor of Laws from Tsinghua University and his Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) in Common Law from the University of Illinois College of Law (USA). He is also a Ph.D. candidate in Management (Concentration in Labor Relations) at the School of Management and Labor Relations, Rutgers University (USA).
His research focuses on labor dispute resolution and the relationship between international economic and trade systems and labor standards, engaging in interdisciplinary studies spanning labor relations, social security, and law. He has been approved as the Chief Expert for two Major Special Projects of the National Social Science Fund (2020 and 2023). He has also led two sub-projects of National Social Science Fund Major Projects, along with multiple general projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, the Ministry of Education’s Humanities and Social Sciences Youth Fund, the Guangdong Provincial Social Science Fund, and the Guangzhou Municipal Social Science Fund. He has published one academic monograph and over 50 high-impact papers in both Chinese and English. He has served as Associate Editor of an international top-tier journal and Guest Associate Editor of several other international academic publications.

He is dedicated to building a high-end academic platform and think tank for regional and country studies, international economic and trade law research, and labor relations and social security research in South China. He has authored dozens of policy advisory reports, which have been repeatedly adopted by publications such as Highlights of National Social Science Fund Project Achievements and Special Report on Major National Social Science Fund Project Achievements (both issued by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee), Southern Think Tank Report (Guangdong Federation of Social Sciences), and Guangzhou Research (CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee). Several of his reports have been adopted by central government departments, the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, and the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security, earning positive written comments from leaders at or above the provincial and ministerial level.
Committed to practical application, he became a part-time lawyer after qualifying in the bar exam and has provided legal services to various clients.
