BiographyProf. Dr. Jiaoyan Ren Dr. Jiaoyan Ren, is a professor at the School of Food Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology, and a member of the 12th China Youth Federation, an expert of the National School Food Safety and Nutrition Health Working Expert Group. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in 2003 and a joint Masters-PhD in Food Science in 2008 from the South China University of Technology. She currently serves as the Associate Director of the Food Nutrition and Health Research Institute, a PI at the Sino-Singapore International Joint Research Institute, and a Shen Nong Distinguished Researcher of the National Cereal Engineering Technology Research Center. She has participated in 4 provincial appraisal results, the formulation of 4 national industry standards [Domestic Trade Industry Standard Freshwater Fish Collagen Peptide Powder (SB/T10634) -2011), the domestic light industry standard Freshwater Fish Protein Peptides (QB/T 4588-2013)], and the Ministry of Agriculture’s General Higher Education Twelfth Five-Year Plan textbook Food Chemistry. Thus far, she has published 124 SCI/EI papers as the first/corresponding author in international authoritative journals (including TOP journals such as JAMA (IF=157.3) and GUT (IF=31.8)), and a total of 30 of her articles have been recognized by the top international academic evaluation system Semantic Scholar Articles as high-impact citations, with a total of 10,567 citations and 10,187 citations times. The highest citation for a single article is 269, and the H-index is 55. A total of 6 articles were selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers; one as a key scientific article by Global Medical Discovery in Canada. Prof. Ren serves as editor for the internationally renowned journal Food Chemistry, associate editor for Food Frontiers and Food Materials Research. She also serves as an editorial board member for International Journal of Food Engineering and Food Research and Development. She has been invited for presentations at 19 international academic conferences, including 3 ISBP Peptide International Conferences, 4 ISPMF International Conferences, 2 SENS 6/NSFC-FDCT Annual Meetings, and 1 FSMP Summit Forum, among others. Her research integrates enzymatic preparation, purification, structural characterization, activity evaluation, and structure-activity relationships of small-molecule bioactive peptides (e.g., learning and memory-enhancement, aging, anti-gout, and malnutrition peptides). She has established key stabilizing technologies for peptide-multinutrient complexes and investigated their synergistic health effects, providing a theoretical foundation for industrial applications in Special Medical foods, Nutrition products for the elderly and Functional foods. Prof Ren has successfully managed a range of significant scientific and technological initiatives, highlighting her expertise and leadership in international collaboration. She spearheaded a key project under the Intergovernmental International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation program, specifically a joint laboratory partnership between China and the UK, which received funding of RMB 2 million. Additionally, she has overseen two sub-projects under China's National 863 Program, contributing to pivotal areas of scientific advancement. She has been actively involved in four projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, responsible for both foundational research and youth initiatives that foster new talent in the field. She has also steered a project funded under the National Key Research and Development Program, comprising one main project and two sub-projects, further solidifying her portfolio of high-impact research endeavors. Moreover, Prof Ren managed one foreign expert project supervised by the Ministry of Science and Technology, focused on enhancing international collaboration through innovation talent exchanges under the Belt and Road initiative and has also led a major technological project in Xinjiang, targeting the revitalization and sustainable development of the walnut industry in rural areas. She has further participated in the Guangdong Provincial International Science and Technology Cooperation Project which involved a joint-applications between institutions from the University of Cambridge in the UK and partners from Ghana, showcasing a commitment to fostering cross-border scientific alliances. She has also been recognized for leading the inaugural Guangdong Province Outstanding Youth Team project, which garnered funding of RMB 3 million. Prof Ren has demonstrated a strong connection with industry through 23 commissioned research and development projects, with a remarkable achievement where corporate commissions exceeded RMB 10 million. Her technical contributions have been validated by the successful completion of four projects, recognized and certified at the provincial and ministerial levels, with an impressive total project value reaching RMB 35 million.
